Connecting the Past and the Present
The Peinan Culture site in eastern Taiwan, representing the Neolithic period, needed a vertical passageway to link the platforms with the archaeological museum site due to the construction of the Taitung Station and the opening of the South Loop Railway. To preserve the site's integrity, a concrete foundation was installed below the staircase to address the limited excavation depth of the national heritage site's foundation. Additionally, the water tower at the original site was used as the structural support point above the staircase. The staircase was designed with a lightweight and slender steel structure, zigzagging upwards to provide scenic views and perspectives of the cultural landscapes. Cedar boards and wood planks were used for the railings and ramp extension, seamlessly integrating visitors into the local history and culture.
